Farmers, Be authentic.

June 14, 2011

Simple truths can go a long way for farmers. These same principles can really apply to any other business as well.

In positioning your farm and communicating with your customers, keep the following three truths in-mind and at the forefront of your marketing efforts.

  1. Be authentic.
  2. Your story is interesting.
  3. Keep it fresh – never frozen!

To market the farm, you have to look at your place through the eyes of your customers.  That’s hard to do for many.  But once you see things from their perspective, it will make your efforts go a lot farther.  As a farmer, you can get wrapped up in the day-to-day operations, planting, harvesting, etc. and loose sight of what your customers want to see.  This is why sometimes it is very beneficial to have someone other than yourself market your farm for your.

It can get overwhelming when you hear people talking about you must have a website, that you need a Facebook page, and how important social media is…..when you’re just worrying about when it’s gonna rain – or how you’re going to get your crops watered.  You only have so many hours in the day to get the farm chores done, and you’re already working from sun up till sun down.

Well, that’s where Season’s Peak can step in.  Meet Ansley. She understands the role of a farmer, and has been around farming her whole life.  But she also is a marketing professional who represents farmers.  This experience allows her to step into the shoes of the consumer, farm-goer, agritourism visitor etc. where she can help sell the farm experience and connect with your customers!
