Natural Fall Decor Ideas

fall decorating with natural elements

I just love this time of year!  Who’s with me?

One of my favorite things to do is to decorate the front porch for the season.  An inviting front porch used to be a gathering place for so many southerners.  I’m sure my front porch has had many since it was built back in the 1870’s, by my early ancestors.  I don’t get to enjoy actually ‘sitting’ on my front porch quite as often as I’d like to — with two young boys, we are usually out in the yard playing.  But a fall display on the front porch sets the tone for what’s inside — your home and heart.

I picked up my knack for the outdoors and gardening, from my parents — and I just love it!  So it’s only ‘natural’ for me to seek pieces to my fall decor from the outdoors.  I encourage you do the same when decorating for fall — tap into nature.  You will be amazed at what you can do with natural elements that are growing outdoors.

You can continue the seasonal tone by bringing some of these elements indoors.  On my mantle I have a variety of mini pumpkins and gourds, along with fresh-cut zinnias right from my garden.  Zinnias are easy cut-flowers to grow.  Just sprinkle the seeds in spring, water and enjoy them all summer long and into early fall.  You will always have a fresh bouquet of flowers in your home from your Zinnias.  Other items you can use as part of fall decorations are acorns, leaves, grape vine wreaths, dried peppers etc.
